Presenting the D.U.H. Holdster
The D.U.H. Holdster offers a unique way for Shopsmith users to store their accessories. “D.U.H.” stands for ‘Dangle Under Here’ and, as it’s name suggests, it dangles from the lower tubes of the carriage keeps things like sanding disks, close at hand but out of the way when not in use. I discuss the D.U.H Holdster’s design and go through the process of creating in this video. Below I’ll discuss a bit about the benefits of the design, a simplified plan and photos of different variations of the D.U.H. Holdster I’ve made. Feel free to leave a questions or comments below (or on the video’s page).
Benefits of the D.U.H. Holdster design:
Easily made from scrap wood
Doesn’t require any hardware (screws, nails, hinges, nuts, brads, bolts, zippers, etc.)
Basic joinery… Butt joints and half-laps. (That would make a good band name!)
Easily modified to support various accessories or secondary tools.
Not permanently attached to the Shopsmith tubes. Easily moved and removed. Won’t limit machine function!
Sawdust accumulation on Holdster and accessory is minimized.
Can stand on its own when not hanging from tubes.
